One day in July, we went to the studio of Blooming Nakanishi & Company on the seventh floor of Meikakan to take pictures for the web contest.
We met Ms. Chizuko Deushi, whom we asked to set up the table with Florever's table wreath made from preserved flowers.

-- Thank you very much for this amazing table setup.
Deushi I coordinated this setup with consideration of the flowers I was given.
I placed the wreath on the cake stand, elevating it a little. I usually match the color of the tablecloth with the flowers but, this time, I decided to go with a purplish-gray cloth to make the flowers stand out more.
-- We would like to ask you some questions.
Did you know about preserved flowers before working on this setup?
Deushi Flowers are indispensable for table setting, so I know and I use preserved flowers. I also use artificial flowers as well as fresh flowers, depending on the setup I am creating.
Preserved flowers are scentless and long lasting, which match perfect with coordinating table setups.
Some students from our school also use preserved flowers.
-- You work as a “Table Setting Expert”. What exactly do you do?
Deushi It is all about setting up an entire table to produce a rich and fulfilling dining experience.
A little tweaking can make meals more enjoyable. This is a job creating rich mealtimes for a whole family, for a couple, or for your own.
-- What do you do in your daily work?
Deushi I am in charge of the table setting for the online tablecloth shop “Table Recipe”.
I also teach table setting classes at our company.
The class only holds a small group of eight people per session, and currently, I teach a basic lesson.
Table setting requires a variety of knowledge including tableware types, colors, layout, and sizes. I teach these basics comprehensively.
I want my students to have fun with their table setups while learning the basics.
Therefore, I usually give them hints for enriching daily experiences rather than having them focus on memorizing formal table setups.
-- Being a judge of the upcoming Web contest, what kind of scenery did you imagine upon hearing the contest theme “Preserved Flowers, Beauty for the dining table"?
Deushi Table setting can be done in a wide range of styles from casual to prestigious. There are also small tricks that can make the everyday meal a little more enriching. Therefore, it made me think that the applicants also imagine all sorts of scenes.
-- Do you have any tips for handling flowers in table setting?
Deushi Basically, a dining table is for eating your meals. This means that flowers should not interfere dining experiences.
For example, keeping the height of flowers within 30cm or less prevents them from covering a face of your dining partner. This is about the height of your arm standing upright when your elbow is leaning on the table.
Preserved flowers are perfect because they are scentless. However, when you are using fresh flowers, be sure not to use those with strong scents.
I also do not recommend using flowers and leaves that easily fall off.
-- Lastly, please give a message to the applicants of the Web Contest.
Deushi Currently, we are facing difficult times where people are not able to dine with friends casually. However, I believe table setting makes your dining experiences to be fun and enriching even at home.
The tablecloth, a single piece of napkin, or a placemat, together with flowers can make a difference. These table settings can cheer up your table and allow you to enjoy the seasons even though you are using the same tableware.
